Saatva is a direct to consumer luxury mattress brand focused on providing premium mattresses at much lower prices than traditional retail. Founded in 2010 by Ron Rudzin and Ricky Joshi, The Saatva Company is based in Westport, Connecticut and offers three premium mattresses and one adjustable bed frame. Their key differentiators are complete white-glove setup and mattress removal, and a longer-than-standard trial period (120 days) and warranty (15 years).

In their own words, the company has a focus on providing premium mattresses at a reasonable price: “By cutting out the middleman and retail store markups in the traditional supply chain, the company is able to provide a luxury product at dramatically lower prices.”
Saatva’s vertical integration and revenues are both impressive. According to a September 2017 Wall Street Journal article, Saatva operates 19 factories and 135 fulfillment centers and was expected to earn $200 million in revenue, with net earnings of $15 million. The article also mentioned the hiring of a firm to consider a round of fundraising, which has been a recent trend among some of their mattress industry competitors.
Saatva’s innerspring mattress isn’t a pure memory foam mattress, it’s a hybrid design. It does have one layer of memory foam, but the mattress also has 884 individually wrapped coils in one layer of their queen mattress. This gives it the tallest height of any No Middleman mattress brand, at 14.5″” tall (although there’s also an 11.5″ option, for those who want a slimmer mattress or want Saatva’s adjustable frame). Additionally, customers can choose from three different firmness levels (firm, plush, and luxury firm). The pricing of the innerspring mattress is $599 – $1,399.
Saatva has two other premium mattress models: the Loom & Leaf memory foam mattress (12″” height, 5 layers; $749 – $1,499) and the Zen Haven natural latex mattress (10″” height, $1,299 – $2,499). These are both positioned as luxury mattresses, with the Loom & Leaf model having an “eco-friendly memory foam core, an additional 4 progressive comfort layers, cooling gels and a lush organic cotton top,” according to their website. The Zen Haven model is “crafted from American Talalay latex harvested from 100% pure sap from trees,” with the intent of being hypoallergenic.
Saatva’s pricing is the highest of the direct to consumer mattress brands featured on No Middleman, but they’re not quite apples-to-apples with memory foam, and it’s possible that many consumers will prefer their spring-based Innerspring mattress or their natural latex mattress. Additionally, they make many price comparisons on their website to similar mattresses that are much more expensive in traditional retail, so this is a “premium product for value pricing” brand. Saatva is on the expensive end of our direct to consumer spectrum, but they’re still less expensive than traditional retail brands–according to Saatva, the retail equivalent of their three mattresses is $2,749, $4,799, and $7,166 (versus Saatva’s $1,399, $1,499, and $2,499 maximum price points).
Also, an interesting luxury accessory that Saatva sells is their Lineal Adjustable Base, which converts into several heights and daybed/recliner-like positions. At $1,100 – $2,500 extra, it isn’t cheap, but it’s unique and could be useful to anyone who wants to spend more hours in the bedroom, for medical reasons or leisure.
This direct to consumer brand’s premium products extend into premium services, with a free “White Glove” delivery service with every mattress, which includes setting up your new mattress and taking away your old one. Customer service is commensurate with the high quality we’d expect from a premium brand. Saatva promises to be “available everyday of the year, 24 hours a day for any question you may have during the buying process and beyond.” Their Facebook presence is responsive, online chat is very proactive, and support via phone and email is available 24/7. Very impressive, and by far the best customer service availability we’ve seen in this industry.
Lastly, Saatva leads the pack when it comes to their trial period–120 days to return the mattress, which is 20% longer than any other direct to consumer brand we’ve seen. Overall, Saatva is a No Middleman favorite as a leader in luxury, direct to consumer mattresses, and we expect them to continue to deliver premium value at a reasonable price.
